Medical Botox®

Botox® is a neuromodulating toxin that acts to reduce the signal from nerves to muscles. This results in a relaxing effect in the areas treated.

Botox® also inhibits the release of CGRP, a pro-inflammatory protein implicated in migraines.

Botox® is injected and takes up to 24 hours to be secured within the nerve cells. It will reach peak effect within 14 days of injection. This is when full results are evident. The product will degrade on its own within 10-14 weeks.

The injection is usually done using ultrasound guidance to ensure the injection is safe and accurate. Some injections do not require ultrasound guidance, such as those in some facial muscles.
